Artist Statement

This portfolio and every single post that I have on here is a project that I have done, and have enjoyed working on. What you will see in my personal portfolio is all my photographs that I have worked on through out my whole 2nd semester. Some of the random images you will see were actually very interesting and fun. All the nice weird looking images are Ms. Cook’s ideas but they are very interesting.
I really did like the idea of having my own page with the photographs that I take myself when Ms. Cook had told us about it I was very excited. I also really love the idea of me posting up my images on the internet so others in and around the school and out of school. People can also go look at the site and enjoy what I have really worked on. I really don’t know why but I love the idea its just really cool showing all the different ideas we have in our class.
I have learned a lot during this past semester that I have been attending this class. It has been very interesting I love the class, Ms. Cook has shown me so many things I can do with a camera and many other things that you shouldn’t not do with the camera. I have also learned a lot about (iso, shutter speed, light metering, ECT...) those are some things I have learned about in a camera that I have never knew about until I learned it in this class. Now I do use those to take way better looking photos.
I feel like I’m most successful on the new different techniques I have learned about I even use them out of school with my own camera. I’m so glad I have learned about these techniques because they are very helpful. I do love the way I can use many different things that I have learned in school in and out of the school campus. But I know that I have been very successful in many different ways I have enjoyed learning a lot of camera technique. Now I actually know not to just buy a camera for the way it looks and how pretty and cute it is. Now I know that I should always check the iso on a camera before purchasing it.
I actually really didn’t struggle that much with anything but the only reason why is because I already had token this class but over in California and it was some what the same but I did have way much more difficulty here than the old class I had. The hard parts about this class were Photoshop working I think but then again it wasn’t that hard I think it was pretty easy everything we have done was easy and fun. I do think I can improve a lot more in the future and have way much more fun by working on everything single little technique I have learned about but really I think everything is very easy so I don’t really think I should improve on a lot.
The things that influence me the most was Ms. Cook’s work I really like how she does everything that she has worked on it’s just makes me want to work harder on what I’m working on because I would like my artwork to be just like Ms. Cook.
Well I actually have seen growth and improvement in all my work I just have worked very hard and have been helped so much. So all that has gave me growth to work hard and improve my work and show that I can work hard and do a very good job in many projects in many different ways. I do hope that I have shown that I have improved in all my work because I feel like I have ever since I first started taking this class.

Self Portraits
This project was very fun and exciting I loved it I had fun but it was kind of difficult also because we had to take photos left and right and choose the best ones we liked. It was also a lot of fun because I show my expression in every image well mostly every image but the expression I was trying to express is me being the happiest girl that you can ever meet. The most creative image that I had was my rule of thirds because I had so much fun it showed that I’m a very silly young lady. That image was very funny but very fun because I couldn’t stop laughing but that’s the best image in my eyes. Well actually my ideas were all different and did change.

My composition image that I think is the most successful is my lighting portrait because it shows how I just like to think on my own and I thought it was a very good image that was taken. Also because in my head I think that every little expression shows who I am in every little way there is possible. But I do also like the placing of my image and how the setting was set. These images all have their own different composition in every little way even if it’s in a goofy way or very mature looking way, but I show what I feel and I did what I wanted in all my images. I just love how all my images have a good work on the composition but I do have one image where I don’t have a very good composition because I have something there that show in my image that image would be my element photograph.

I do think that my craftsmanship was use very wisely and pretty good. I do have some weaknesses on an image and that would my prop image it came out too dark but then again to light so I really didn’t like that, but I also did love the way it looks. But in other words all my craftsmanship is wisely used I liked how the images came out. They did have great settings for every expression that I had. I did actually use the cameras techniques to set up the images so they won’t come out too light or too dark, used ISO and F-STOP CHANGES that’s all I used so m y images could look the way they are now. My strengths are that the lighting of the image is hitting the right spots, but my weaknesses is the setting that I chose wasn’t the greatest place that I could of chosen. I also think that I could have worked more on my personal prop on many little things.

My overall conclusion on all my portraits is that I do really think I did a pretty good job, but I do know that I could have done a way better job. My favorite portrait is my rule of third because that was a very fun experience that I had. The reason why I choose that image is because that portrait shows the real me and shows who I really am. My rule of thirds image was one of the craziest images I took, my partner and I had the best time taking that photograph. My least favorite image was my lighting image I think I could of done way better and, I also could have had the photo token a little closer to me because the image was token way too far from where I was sitting. But this project was really hard but easy. It was a very fun experience that Ms. Cook came up with well this was one of the best project that we had ever since I attended Cesar Chavez
High.

Shutter Speed

Shutter Speed is a great tool to use when you want your image to have just enough lighting and when you want it to focus just right.Also shutter speed is read in fractions.But the shutter speed can be use in many different ways it can be in the dark or in the light.You can also focus lights into the camera when your in a very dark room.Like my partner and i came out in our image very well but we had glow sticks so the light can stand out.Shutter speed also allows you to customize your images.Shutter speed is use when your in motion but i have posted up two of my example in the dark and me walking.

Lighting Metering

In this project we tried to focus on the main thing we have to take the photo of.Like on this day we had to focus on the light but we were in the dark so thats why the images came up the way the did.I was actually focusing on the lighting of the computer screen and i di have my partener sitting right next to the screen but how i was just focusing on the screen the camera didn't even bother to put my partner in the image.On my second photgraph i had to focus on my partner and take the picute of hercame out with more lighting,because the computer screen was hitting her face with the bright light so these project was on two different forms of images, that had to focus on lighting in the dark.

ISO

These three images are all different in alot of different ways because the "flash" image just lights up the person your trying to focus on and it doesnt bring out the rest of the lights that are around were ever you have set yourself.My second image which is the "iso 50" comes out very dark because the camera doesnt let alot of light in thats around the room. My third image is "iso 5000" is way different than my other 2 images it does have way more lighting in the image the back lights stand out more because teh camera let more light in for this image, than the flash image because the flash image is just bright. But the way i would use iso to make my images way better is change the iso around untill it fit right like i have learned today.

PERSONAL METAPHOR

Metaphor Evaluation:
The reason why I chose the metaphor I have done is because sometime I just feel like a diamond or a diamond ring. I just feel like I’m sparkling in the sun when I smile. What I was trying to express is me always being happy. I also was trying to express that I’m like a person people can’t live with out because I’m a very happy and silly girl. Sometime I just feel like I brighten up everyone’s day. The mood I wanted to express and
Capture was a very happy mood always hyper and with a smile on my face no matter what is going on. I just feel like I’m a very happy camper at time s.
The reason why I place my diamond ring where I did was so the ring can sparkle like my metaphor says that I sparkle with the lighting of the sun. My strong focal area is in the lighting of the sun in my face and also in the center of the diamond ring. My focal area is strong because on the ring the sun over hit the center of the diamond ring, and make the diamond sparkle and shine all over the place. My other focal area is my face in the photo the sun brightly hit me in the center of my face also. You can also see where the focal areas are. I do think my composition is balanced because the sun is hitting the right places in both photos. The lighting of both photos is just in the same places so it combines very well. I do think my photograph is unified it does work and look all good being attach together. I really think it’s a very well combination.
My evaluation on my image is that I think I tried very hard and worked on my project the most I could. I do think that I did a good job on combining my two images together and they look very fine, I did sharpen up my edges so I also think that looks great. The most difficult part was cutting the diamond ring image and being very careful that I cut the right amount on the image of myself. Also fixing the edges of they image was very intense because I had to have a very good hand and be very carful to not clean up more than enough. I do think I could have done a way better job on pasting my image on to the diamond, but then again I think it look very good the way it is. I do agree that I could have done better work on some of the work I have done. Some thing that I would change would probably be working harder and not doubting me on the project. I do think that maybe I could have tried harder to combine the two images together even better but I’m happy wit the work I have done.

HYBRID

An exercise borrowed from “I’ve Got a Human in My Throat” by Chris Johnson.
In preparation for our PERSONAL METAPHOR project we brushed up our skills combining objects together. Using layer masks and the clone stamp we blended this dog and bird together.

MOVIE MOMENTS

Inspired by Cindy Sherman a contemporary photographer who took photo's of herself starring in movies that never existed.

This is an action movie.
*Movie Summary:
A trio of feisty women are reunited together by their boss Charlie. Charlie runs a private investigation agency. These women are the best he has trained to beat down the bad guys using their martial art techniques and master disguise. Once they are brought together they are to defeat and capture the villain Dr. Roberts. However, the girls soon realize that in reality their enemy is a woman rather than a male which flips everything around and causes them to reenact their investigations and attempt capturing the villain once again before time runs out and the world is destroyed.

CHOCOLATE FROG

For Valentines Day we turned frogs into chocolate.I thought the project was fun and intresting because i learned how to turn a frog which is a reptile in to a chocolate which its a kind of food ect.I thought i was every interesting i liked it a lot it was a fun project to do. I learned how to make a reptile look like an actual chocolate and not makin look like what it was before it was edited.I love to learn new things like today that i made this chocolate frog.

SHADOW AND REFLECTION

In these execrises we learneed how to create shados and reflections to help us make more realistic artwork.A ne. w tool we learned was layer mask.The thing we learned here can help me in the future by using it the tool more often and it comes in handy at time when i want to use it for a project or anything i need to use it for during the class period or when i get a job

AGED PHOTO

In this project we used one of our frame photographs to practice using Photoshopto create specific effects.

Balance with Frames

In this project we were given a frame.We had to use it in our composition.We also had to be in our photo, but not in the centerIts was to be in black and white, and we needed to create a sense of visual balance.I created balance by not standing in the middle of the photograph and a place that the light from the sky is balanced also.The poles and the wall also have balance and match me and the frame.

EGG CHALLENGE

In this project each student was given an egg to
photograp. We were to take a photo in both color and black-and-white. We were suppose to exemplify one or more of the following:Creativity, Craftsmanship or Compisiton.I believe my color photograph was the most succesful because your were able to see it more than my black&white photograph.It also had the leading lines to it and it was also in the center of all the surroundings it had.

My Favorite Project From Last Semester

I came from San Pedro High School in California in the city of San Pedro.Now Im going to school here at Cesar Chavez High School. Well Ive had art experience before through out all my high school years. I took photo design jewelry and digital computers with photo shop.But I wold like to learn way more about art because I do like to take pictures and I would like to learn more about photo class. Because like to mess with cameras and I like you learn more about the cameras and how they are all different.
